  1. Hi Domenica! I think I can't answer to any single question from your list. You should ask professor Johnson or some native speakers. Also it will be a good idea to discuss these questions on Wednesday. That's what I can tell you. Have a good day!!!

  3. OK. Here are my answers as best as I know them. Students feel free to comment on any of the topics brought up here.

    1. We have a no fault divorce, so the couple is saying that neither is at fault, they just don't want to be married any more. Maybe they no longer love each other.......it's an odd concept to even me as an American.

    2. Yes, it is valid in America. I'm not sure about other countries, but it think it is. Why do you ask this, are you thinking of getting married in Las Vegas before you go back to Austria? I hope you are laughing - it was meant as a joke!

    3. Most people wear their wedding ring on their left "ring" finger.

    4. Families do not have to pay for public high school. You may have to pay a fee for sports or club involvement.

    5. Some would not view it as complicating their children's life. there is a balance between what is best for the adults and what is best for the children. Mostly families move because of economic reasons, i.e. job promotions, loss of a job, perhaps a health issue may also be a reason.

    6. No, this is all new for America. This website has a time line on same sex marriages and civil unions. you can find out more there. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0761909.html

  5. I think, if you marry in Las Vegas it is not legal in Austria, you have to do different paper work to make the wedding legal. Because my neighbors married in Las Vegas and they had many difficulties.

  6. @ Prof. Johnson: I am too young to marry - I've still about 8 more years to become 30 ... ;)

  7. Domenica,

As the Chinese proverb said, age is not a problem; the height is not the distance.
